Senior Foster Program

Fostering for or Adopting from The Roland Senior Dog Rescue Gang, Inc.

Placing senior dogs where they can live the remainder of their lives as a part of a family is our main goal here at The Roland Senior Rescue. Most of the members that you see at the Rescue can be adopted through the Senior Foster Program. In order to grow, we are seeking Senior Foster Homes to provide loving homes to Senior Dogs. The dogs that we bring into our program are those who are nearly or fully un-adoptable due to disability and/or age but who are still able to enjoy the remainder of their senior years with a good quality of life. This amount of time may range from weeks to months to years, and we aim to provide the best quality of life possible for our members during that time through loving homes, high quality vetting and medication and great food. With donations and grants we will provide medical care and basic needs to the dogs living in our foster homes. We do, however, unless there are unusual food requirements or other arrangements are made, ask that the foster family provide food for their foster. We will recommend brands and types of food which are considered high quality. Fostering for us is different than fostering for other rescues in that we hope that our fosters will be "forever" homes for the remainder of their life. However, if circumstances should arise, the senior foster always has a home back here at the rescue if needed. Although adoption is not expected, we will allow our fosters to adopt dogs from us, however, all adoptions must start as Senior Foster Families. Foster homes must be within 100 miles of Melrose, FL. If you live outside our 100 mile radius and would like to adopt a senior dog, we suggest that you contact your local shelter. Sadly, there are many senior dogs in need of loving retirement homes.
After applying to be a Senior Foster family, your vet will be contacted for a reference. You will be contacted by phone or email and then an informal home meet and greet visit will be arranged.
Because our main goal is to place senior and un-adoptable dogs in safe, lifetime placements, we do not charge any fees. (Donations are always welcome)
The following are requirements to foster for The Roland Senior Dog Rescue Gang, Inc.:

1. Your senior foster must be kept as an inside dog and as a loved member of the family.

2. The Foster Family must be willing to provide the time, environment and attention necessary for the needs of a senior dog. There may be issues to contend with such as medication schedules, mobility problems, poor sight and hearing and occasional disorientation. These things will be discussed during the approval process and then again for a specific dog at the time of placement.

3. Foster homes must be within 100 miles of Melrose, FL.

4. Prior to approving a foster home, we will require a home visit and veterinary reference. In lieu of a veterinarian reference, we may require another professional reference.

5. All other dogs who reside in the foster home must be spayed or neutered unless there are veterinarian recommended reasons for not doing so. All pets in the house must be up to date on recommended shots and preventatives.

6. The senior foster agrees to provide monthly updates concerning the foster.
